Leased line pricing depends on the location of your business and is always subject to a survey. Use our form above to request bespoke pricing for your business.
Most leased line providers advertise their services as a simple monthly cost. This can range from as little as £2,500 per year to over £15,000, depending on the agreed bandwidth, business location, contract length, and the complexity of the installation.
There are three key elements to leased line costs, which we explain and quantify in this guide:
The cost of a leased line isn’t fixed and depends on several factors your business can control. Reduce your expenses by following these tips:
Combine your leased line with other business network solutions such as SD-WAN solutions, or SASE to secure better rates.
Accurately assess your current and future broadband and network requirements to optimise your spending. Request quotes from multiple providers to negotiate a better deal or leverage price-matching offers.
Choosing a longer-term agreement (3–5 years) can significantly reduce monthly fees and may include additional discounts.
The total cost of your leased line will depend on the following factors:
The maximum speed your leased line infrastructure can support ( typically 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps) depending on your scalability needs.
The speed your provider guarantees in the Service Level Agreement (SLA), often tiered at 100 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 1 Gbps, or 10 Gbps.
The time-to-fix guarantees offered by the top leased line broadband providers range from a best-in-class four hours to six hours.
Longer leased line business broadband contracts (five years or more) typically come with lower monthly fees and include free installation.
Complex leased line installations incur Excess Construction Charges (ECCs) for trenching, laying ducts, securing wayleaves or extending fibre long distances.
Cities tend to have lower costs due to dense fibre networks, shorter distances to exchanges, abundant backhaul infrastructure, and greater competition among providers.
Some leased line providers offer a cheaper wires-only service, which does not include a managed router or firewall protection.
Pricing also depends on the provider’s reputation, costs, and customer acquisition strategies.
All new leased line services require the installation of a dedicated fibre optic cable between a nearby exchange and the customer’s property.
To fully explain the process, visit our guide to leased line broadband installations.
Simple leased line installations are typically free on 60-month contracts, but may require a one-off upfront payment on shorter terms.
Below is a breakdown of the different elements involved in leased line installation costs.
Cost: Usually free
All leased line contracts are subject to an initial site survey to assess the feasibility of connecting your property with a dedicated fibre optic cable. If additional civil engineering work is required, your provider will either cancel your order or propose Excess Construction Charges.
Cost: £nil to £2,000
Your leased line provider will lay a dedicated fibre optic cable to connect your property to a nearby exchange. The cost depends on the distance between your premises and the nearest exchange. For long-term contracts in towns and cities, this one-off cost is typically waived.
Cost: £nil to £200
A leased line provider will install an Optical Network Terminal and a business broadband router at the terminating point of your dedicated leased line. Most providers waive the cost of this hardware on longer-term contracts.
Cost: £nil to £10,000+
Leased line Excess Construction Charges apply when a provider must carry out additional civil engineering work to connect your property. Common examples include digging trenches or arranging roadworks.
Cost: £nil to £10,000+
Your leased line provider may need to arrange and pay for wayleave agreements in order to lay your fibre optic cable across private land to reach your property. Some providers may pass on these costs as an additional charge in your contract.
Leased line broadband contracts are typically modular, allowing businesses to add extras to tailor the service to their specific needs.
Here are the three most popular leased line add-ons and their impact on monthly costs.
Additional cost: £20 – £80/month
A leased line failover is a secondary broadband connection that provides an immediate backup in the event of a fault on the leased line. Failover connections typically use SoGEA or full fibre business broadband.
Additional cost: £30 – £150/month
Leased line providers typically offer a bundled suite of business broadband cybersecurity services, including DDoS protection and a firewall to block unauthorised traffic and enforce network policies.
Additional cost: £3 – £5 /address/month
A static IP address is a fixed IP address assigned to your leased line connection for the duration of your contract. Most providers offer to supply as many static IP addresses as required, with an additional monthly cost for each.
For businesses to have an idea of costs, here are typical price ranges based on location and different providers in the UK:
